RFID Proximity Cards
A smart card, chip card, ISO-Card or integrated circuit card (ICC), is any pocket-sized card with embedded integrated circuits which can process data. Contactless Smart Card, in which the chip communicates with the card reader through RFID induction technology, require only close proximity to an antenna to complete transaction. They are often used when transactions must be processed quickly or hands-free, such as on mass transit systems, where smart cards can be used without even removing them from a wallet.
The international standard ISO/IEC 7810 defines the physical characteristics for identity or identification cards. The standard size is 85.60 ื 53.98 mm (3.370 ื 2.125 in).

The standard for contactless smart card communications is ISO/IEC 14443. It defines two types of contactless cards ("A" and "B"), allows for communications at distances up to 10 cm. An alternative standard for contactless smart cards is ISO 15693, which allows communications at distances up to 50 cm.

GS1 is an international not-for-profit association dedicated to the development and implementation of global standards and solutions
to improve the efficiency and visibility of supply and demand chains globally and across multiple sectors. EPCglobal is leading the
development of industry-driven standards for the Electronic Product Code (EPC) to support the use of Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID) in todays fast-moving, information rich, trading networks.
In 2004 a new protocol, the Class 1 Generation 2 interface was created. This EPC Gen2 standard was approved in December 2004 and with
minor modifications adopted in 2006 as ISO 18000-6C.

Dual frequency cards are offering the combination of the UHF technology for Far Field Communication often combined with a Mifare chip for using the NFC secure data communication. The combination within a loyalty or membership card - payment in the clubs' bar - and car parking access is a typical application.
